First pile Amsterdam Canal house

Last year the old decrepit buildings still stood, now it is a building site: this morning Waalpaal Foundation Techniques put the first pile for the new building in the ground.

According to an ancient tradition some coins were laid under the piles of the future house, with particular meaning for the clients. For good luck during the building process, and all the years after.

The piles are not driven into the ground, but screwed. The screw injection piles are installed free from vibration and noise. The screw injection pile is a steel tube pile encased in hardened cement grout. During installation the ground is wholly displaced, thereby increasing the bearing capacity. The whole process is barely audible: better for the neighbours.
